MAYTIE CHERRY, a long-time resident of Riverside county, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home after a short battle with metastatic cancer Sunday November 20th. She was born to Harold and Myrtle (Klein) Rimbey in August of 1942 in Walla Walla, Washington. She graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID with a BA and teaching credential and moved to Riverside, CA to begin her 35-year career with Riverside Unified School District. Soon after moving she began attending Arlington Avenue Church of the Nazarene. She noted a young man, Richard Wayne Cherry, who attended NNC for one semester also attended church there. They had a few dates before declaring their love for each other. Married in early August 1965, they enjoyed over 26 years together including the raising of three boys, prior to his passing. She enjoyed being in the classroom as well as working in the Child Welfare and Attendance department. Furthering her education at University of La Verne, University of California Riverside, and other institutions ensured she was staying relevant with her skills. Mission work both locally and abroad was a major part of her life even as recent as a construction trip to Cuba in 2015. Traveling to 71 countries with family and friends she was often away "seeing God's creations".

Maytie is survived by her two brothers: Del of San Francisco, and Glenn of Seattle; her sons: Stanford of North Carolina, Trenton and Bennett of California; her 8 "grands": Lauren, Kathryn, Kristen, Kyle, Garrett, Kendall, Leilani, and Blake; as well as extended family and close friends.

A memorial celebration will be held 11am Saturday December 3rd at Sunridge Community Church 42299 Winchester Rd in Temecula. Please use the west entrance.
